Staying Safe
It is very important that you stay safe at parties as many things can go wrong and then you will not have a very good time at the party. Here are some things that can go wrong at a party:
• Binge Drinking
• Drink Driving
• Unprocted sex
• Drug overdoes
• Drink Spiking
• Sexual Assault
• Gate crashing
• Fighting
• Injury
• Getting arrested
• etc
To help not getting into trouble make smart decisions:
• Don’t have to have alcohol or drugs to have a good time
• Eat well before you go out
• Drink in moderation
• Don’t use drugs
• Stay close to your friends that you trust
• Take condoms if you think you might have sex
• Don’t drink drive and do not get in a car with someone who has being drinking
• Leave the party if you don’t feel safe and go to safe place
Another way to help staying Safe it Plan the night out-
• Make sure you know where you’re going and how you are getting there and home (a safe way like a taxi)
• Have a plan B
• Stay in a group and look after each other
• Don’t take your eyes off your drink
• Decide on a drink limit and stick to it
Avoid Trouble:
• Don’t lose control of yourself by drinking too much or using drugs
• Walk away from arguments or fights
• Do not go off with a person you just met. Stay in a public place with them and if they are interested in you get a phone number.
Safe Parting at Home- If you are going to throw a party there are things that you need to think about to keep your party safe-
• Register your party with the local police at least a week before
• Only have invitation party only.
• Indicate whether the party is alcohol free, or it is supplied or BYO.
• Ask parents to supply transport
• Make sure the hosts are sober so they can look after any problems
• Serve plenty or food as people get drunk more on an empty stomach
• Consider hiring a security guard for the night
• Serve plenty of non-alcohol drinks
• Have a plan if someone becomes ill or drunk
• Ask gate crashes to leave immediately
• Call police if the party gets out of hand
Helping a friend- It is important that you not only look after yourself but you look after your friends the people that trust you. If your friend is suffering from drugs or alcohol call 000 for an ambulance so they can help. Stay close to your friends and watch their behaviour. Offer support to your friends if they have being assaulted and advise them to go to the hospital and the police.
